McLaren 'could run second team'.

McLaren Mercedes principal Ron Dennis has admitted that the team could run a second team in Formula One if the sports regulations made it possible for them to use existing cars and parts.
Speaking to reporters in Bahrain ahead of the 2006 season, Dennis said the team would be encouraged to look at the possible of running two teams if changes proposed by the FIA were introduced which would allow teams to use a chassis designed and built by someone else.

Current rules prevent teams from using someone elses car for an entry into Formula One although it is a rule which has long been a bone of contention among members of the grid - with the new Scuderia Toro Rosso STR1 strikingly similar to the RB1 raced by parent company Red Bull during 2005.
"We just need to have clarity on what we can and can't do as regards to [another team] running all of, or elements of, your existing car in a following year," Dennis said. "If there is clarity then that will definitely encourage us to move in that direction.
"We have completely and extensively refurbished our old factory. It is absolutely pristine, better probably than several other teams' currently competing in Formula One. The investment was made in order that an option of running a second team exists."
McLaren has been linked to second team on more than one occasion in the past, most recently when Direxiv - a sponsor of the team - signed a deal with GP2 outfit David Price Racing, leading to speculation that DPR could be become a McLaren 'junior team' at some point in the future.
A second team running under the banner of Team Dubai was also mooted back in 2004 although the plans never came to fruition.
