The organisers of the 2006 Rallyday have confirmed that there will be a special tribute to 2001 World Rally champion, Richard Burns and Michael 'Beef' Park this weekend at the event, which takes place on Saturday, July 22, at the Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire.
Rallyday co-organiser, Brian Stubbings told Crash.net Radio this week that they were especially keen to do something for Burns and Park, both of whom passed away at the end of last year, the latter while competing on the Wales Rally GB, while the former lost his battle against cancer in November.
"One thing that we really wanted to do was a tribute to Burns. His last public appearance, was as you will recall, at the Rallyday last year," explained Stubbings. "What is going to happen is Alex Burns is going to drive the RB5 001, which is the special edition car Subaru did, and we have got fifty other RB5's following it in a parade - that should be very impressive and it will follow a one minute silences in honour of Burns and Michael 'Beef' Park."
The event, which amongst other things, will celebrate the contribution of Burns and Park to the sport, will also feature the Richard Burns Foundation, a charity set-up in the memory of both. The Richard Burns Foundation was launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed two weeks ago.
The Rallyday 2006 takes place the coming weekend, on Saturday July 22 at Castle Combe. Full details are available at the official site: Rallyday.com
