The Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Rally Team have confirmed that Jari-Matti Latvala broke his hand when he went off the road on Saturday, during the second leg of the Rallye de France-Tour de Corse.

Up to that point, he had been going well and was in a solid seventh position.

The Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Rally Team have confirmed that Jari-Matti Latvala broke his hand when he went off the road on Saturday, during the second leg of the Rallye de France-Tour de Corse.

Up to that point, he had been going well and was in a solid seventh position.

Despite being gutted by the off though, he remained in the service area on Sunday during the third and final day talking to his fans, the team and the media. Unlike his team-mate, Matthew Wilson, who also went off early on day two, he not able to re-start under the SupeRally format as his car was too badly damaged.

"I feel better today," he said. "Yesterday, after the accident I was crying for one hour thinking why did I do this?

"It could have been a fantastic result for us, but then it was gone and I thought it could be the end of my rally career. But I think we can keep the same speed, but I don't want to make any mistakes anymore. I have to find the balance to keep the car on the road but at the same speed. It's a difficult sport when you are driving on the limit, but if this was easy there would be many guys at the top."

Latvala is now hoping to contest the Rally Argentina in three weeks time, despite his injury. The Finn though won't be in action for Stobart, as that is not one of the events he is due to contest with the M-Sport ran squad. Instead he will be participating in the Production Car WRC using a Subaru Impreza.

Thus far this season, he has done three WRC events, two with Stobart and one in the PCWRC in Mexico, when he finished ninth.
