Martin calls time on WRC.

Former Peugeot and Ford driver, Markko Martin has confirmed that he has no intention of driving in the FIA World Rally Championship in the 'near future'.

Martin last competed back in September, when he crashed his Peugeot 307 WRC on the final day of the Wales Rally GB, an accident that claimed the life of his co-driver and friend, Michael Park.

Martin, according to BBC Sport Online, told the Estonian press: "I will probably not enter the World Championship carousel any more.

"Never say never, but I don't see myself doing it in the near future."

The Estonian, who made his WRC debut back in Finland in 1997 and who won five WRC events during his time in the sport, added that he is sorry for what happened to Park.

"My career ended on a very bad note," he continued. "I feel terribly sorry for what happened but I know full well the chances were 50:50 that the same fate could have befallen me.

"I have always thought people should grow up at around the age of 30."

As for the future, Martin, will now run his own team in the Estonian Rally championship this year, as he takes what could end up being a permanent break from competitive rally driving.
