Rookie star Quartararo fastest during opening free practice for the British MotoGP at Silverstone.
The track has been resurfaced following last year's rain cancellation, with four different front and rear tyre compounds to chose from this weekend. Quartararo's time was just a fraction from the current pole record.
Lorenzo is making his return from back fractures at Assen, while Mir is still absent after lung damage in the Brno test and is replaced by Suzuki test rider Guintoli.
