Hamilton uninjured in Valencia accident.

A high-speed accident for Lewis Hamilton overshadowed the second day of McLaren's private test session in Valencia, although the young Briton was able to escape from his first major F1 shunt without injury.

Hamilton and team-mate Fernando Alonso were continuing work on the new MP4-22 as the team conducts a three day test away from the F1 paddock when the accident happened, leaving Hamilton's car too damaged to run again this week and bringing his test to a premature end.

"Lewis is uninjured," a McLaren spokesperson said, "but the MP4-22 he was driving is badly damaged and will not be repairable in Valencia for Lewis to continue his test programme tomorrow.

"The cause of the accident is being investigated."

Before the accident, Hamilton had improved his quickest time of the week down to 1min 12.596secs from 33 laps of the Spanish circuit, which put him just under a second behind double world champion Alonso, who wracked up 76 laps and set a time of 1min 11.698secs.

With Hamilton now sidelined, Alonso will complete the final day of the test alone on Friday.
