Nico Rosberg has spoken of his disappointment at not getting a chance to race the Williams-BMW FW27 at either of the last two grands prix of the season, but admits that he can see why the team kept current incumbent Antonio Pizzonia on board.

Rosberg, who is contesting the GP2 Series title this weekend, had been touted for the seat alongside Mark Webber for both the Japanese and Chinese grands prix over the next couple of weeks, with the team apparently keen to run him ahead of a potential full-time deal in 2006. However, despite being involved in a start-line incident at Interlagos last Sunday, Pizzonia has since been given the nod to see out the season.

"Because there was a possibility that I could do the final two races, I knew I had to give all I had [in the Jerez test]," Rosberg said before leaving for Bahrain, "However, now they've decided to keep Pizzonia in the car.

"In the end, I think it was down to them wanting some continuity in the team, and I don't know any of the people in the race team because I haven't met them, so it would have been pretty risky for me [to race] because it would have been a big jump into cold water, for sure. There was a small chance that it would have gone alright, but a big chance that it would have been a disaster. So it's better like this - it was the wisest decision."
