Jordan F1 sporting director Johnny Herbert has said that BAR test driver Anthony Davidson could be the team leader that Jordan is looking for as the Brit prepares to take part in a test session with the team after the Belgian Grand Prix.

Davidson's chances of securing a drive at BAR next season have been severely hit by the signing of Rubens Barrichello, with Jenson Button the man the Honda powered team are keen to pair with the Brazilian driver next season. That would leave Davidson facing another season on the sidelines in a testing role unless he looks elsewhere, which the BAR team have already said they will allow him to do so that Davidson can build on his current tally of three Grand Prix starts.

Should the test with Jordan prove to be successful, then Davidson could find himself lining up for the team in 2006 when it is rebadged as the Midland F1 team and former racer Herbert said he would be the ideal person to lead the new team.

"He's the type of driver that would be a very good core part of the future here, so hopefully that would be something we can get together," he told Reuters. "He's one that you would seriously look at and say he'd be your leader, he's one of the better ones out there for sure.

"If we can all get together and get into a position where we can do the right deal for both of us for the future of his career and the new career with Midland, I think it will be a very positive thing. He can see if he's comfortable and so can we."
